Scalp Conditions

Understanding the variety of scalp conditions is the first step towards effective treatment, and I am here to guide you through them.

With over 35 years of experience as a hairdresser, Lorna Winfield AIT is a qualified and registered associate of the Institute of Trichologists. Combining extensive hands-on expertise with trichology training, Lorna specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of hair and scalp conditions.

Common scalp conditions that Lorna can help treat:

Seborrhoeic Dermatitis

A chronic inflammatory condition causing red, flaky patches on the scalp, often accompanied by itching. It can lead to dandruff-like flakes and is linked to an overgrowth of a yeast called Malassezia.

Scalp Eczema

A form of eczema that causes dry, itchy patches on the scalp. It may also lead to redness and irritation, and can be aggravated by stress or certain hair care products.

Itchy/Sensitive Scalp

Sensitivity on the scalp can result from a variety of factors, including allergic reactions, harsh hair products, or an imbalanced scalp. This often leads to constant itching and discomfort.

Dandruff

Characterised by the presence of flakes that fall from the scalp, dandruff can be caused by dryness, a yeast infection, or seborrhoeic dermatitis. It's often accompanied by itching and irritation.

Psoriasis

A chronic autoimmune condition where the body produces skin cells at an accelerated rate, leading to thick, scaly patches. This can cause severe itching and discomfort on the scalp.
